Meg Comeau heads to White House to talk Medicaid for children with special health care needs
July 1, 2011
Meg Comeau is headed to a meeting in Washington next week. Again. Only this time, it’s personal. She’s been invited to the White House next Thursday to meet with top officials together with two other parents of children with special health care needs. The three will share with policymakers the benefits their families derive from Medicaid and what it would mean to the health and well-being of their children and families if Medicaid changed significantly.
In her capacity as director of the Catalyst Center, Meg knows a good deal about Medicaid policy. After all, she has written and lectured extensively about the program and its importance to children with special health care needs. But as Sarah’s mom, she has direct experience with the program in practice. By merging her personal experience and what she has learned through her work at the Catalyst Center, she will bring a depth of knowledge to the meeting that will help officials understand the impact of proposed changes to Medicaid policies on the families of the children and youth with special health care needs who rely on Medicaid.
The national Family Voices organization was key in organizing the meeting, and a member of its policy staff will also attend. You are invited to share your own story of how the Medicaid program supports your child with special health care needs by clicking the “Share Your Story” button on the Family Voices website.
